New Free Cutfile – Pretty Petals

Hello there!

It is time for a new free cut file! YAY!!!

Our friends at the Cut Shoppe have created the Pretty Petals cut file just in time for Spring. The florals in this design are fun, and so easy to combine to document your  memories, at any time or season of the year.

I took advantage of the floral designs in the cut file to create a cascade of flowers in my layout that celebrates Sister Love.

 

Using the Silhouette Software, the floral motifs were sized to be at the largest 2.5 in.  Once the florals and the leaf pair were sized, a few extra leaves from the Fall Faves cut file  were also added to the file, and all cut from white textured cardstock.

 

 

All the flowers were backed using papers from Pink Paislee’s Pick Me Up collection,  however not the entire cut out was glued to the paper.  Instead glue was just added to the center of the cut out, so that the  petals of the flowers will lift, thus creating movement in the page.

 

 

The two flower design were backed with the same papers, so that they could be evenly spread on the page.

 

 

To back the leaves, a combination of papers from the Pick Me Up and Turn The Page collections were used – all leaves were backed with a diferent shade of green paper-.   The leaves cut outs wre glued fully to the paper, unlike the flower ones.

 

 

Before adding the flowers to the paper, a bit of mixed media was added using some white acrylic paint, and Jane Davenport’s Mermaid markers.  Once the background was dried, the picture was propped on some fun foam.

 

 

The flowers were then glued to the page to form  a cascade (half moon) around the picture.  Foam adhesive and strong glue were used so that there is dimension and movement in the page.  Since there is so much detail added to the page, just a few extra embellishments were necessary.   These chipboard pieces, sequins and stickers all come from Paige Evans’ Pick Me Up collection.

 

 

To complete this page, a title was created using a combination of chipboard stickersm and small alpha stickers wre used.  A few drops of gold ink, and journal lines complete this page.

Silhouette Savvy Series – Stitching Guides

Hello Nerds, and friends!

It is time for a new entry of the Silhouette Savvy Series.   This is  a tutorial, that had been shown before, but since then the Silhouette software has been updated, and the new version does not perform all the commands from the previous version, so I want  to show you an updated version of the same tutorial.   So sit back, and enjoy the following video that will show you how to create the stitching guide followed by the completion of the layout:

 

 

As you can see in the video, the Silhouette software does not have a perforate edge command anymore, instead you have to tell the machine what to do by choosing the type of line you want it to create on the layout.

 

 

 

I used the cut-line to add the stitching that forms the background/title for this page.   This is a way to shorten the tedious work of poking holes along the entire perimeter of the design.   This title took a bit of time to stitch (6 strands of embroidery floss use), but the texture and look it brings is worth the time… Just put on some music or a movie on, and start stitching away.

 

 

Once all the stitching was completed, I accented all the details with some Shimmer watercolor (Prima Marketing Metallics Palette), and some embellishments from the Illustrated Faith Advent collection.

 

 

I kept the stitching as the second focal point of the page, and chose a b/w picture so that it pops from the layout,  A few paper layers and embellishments complete this page.

Free Cut file | 12×12 Layout and cards – Stellar Shapes

Hello Nerds!

It is the beginning of the month, which means it is time for a new free cut file… YAY!!!  This new file designed by Ashley Horton from The Cut Shoppe is filled with some amazing designs with infinite possibilities.

This cut file is a must in your digital library, and you can obtain your free digital copy by visiting the Scrapbook Nerd Store.  But before you head to our store, let’s see the cut file in action.

Nathalie is first with her take on one of the images of the Stellar Shapes file and Paige Evans’s “Turn The Page” collection.

She was inspired to create this page filled with color that documents one of her favorite picture of her kids first year together.

She used one of the images in the Stellar Shapes cut file to cut it from papers in the Turn the page collection (different papers, and sizes), and then used a bit of mixed media, and machine stitching to create a fun background for the page.

 

She even used some of the shapes as layer pieces behind the picture, but let’s see a more in-depth look at how this page came together in the following video:

We hope you enjoyed the video!  Isn’t the background just colorful and fun!  We love how she used the image on her page.  Now let’s see Joy’s take on the Stellar Shapes cut file.

 

Joy used one of the Steller Shapes to create a mask to use with some mist to make a simple
Holiday card. She used some temporary adhesive to stick the Stellar shape onto 4×5.25 kraft coloured card front. After the mist dried Joy add a sentiment and some Nuvo Crystal Drops for a bit of embellishment. 
I think these Stellar Shapes can be used in so many ways.

Free Cut File | 12×12 Layout – H2O PLAY –

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today -it has been a while since my last post!-, bringing you some inspiration using the “All Angles” cut file.   This new cut file was designed by Ashley Horton from the Cut Shoppe exclusively for Scrapbook Nerd, and it is now available for free at the store.

 

 

This cut file is great to document all types of memories.  Since we have had a super packed summer season, there are plenty of pictures to document, so I chose to put a Summer/water spin to the cut file.

 

 

First, I used Distress Oxides to create a watercolor background effect on white cardstock.   While that dried, i created the cut out for the page, by adding an offset to the image, and then just cutting about half of it only.

 

 

I backed every other one of the triangles with papers from Bella Blvd.’s Secrets of the Sea collections, but opted to also glue some of the negative triangle cut outs as open flaps here and there -a bit of foam adhesive was used to create dimension on the page-.

 

 

Once the background was completely dried,  it was trimmed by about 1/4 of an inch on each side, and then it was completely glued  to one of the papers from the Secrets of the Sea girls collectlion.  The cut out was then attached  on an angle on the page.

 

 

To bring the colors of the water to life, the palette on the clusters and titles for this page were kept to blue, yellow and s few green spots.    Since I wanted the picture and background to stand out, I kept the clusters small, and just to the negative spaces on the page.  Here is the final layout:

 

 

The combination of the mixed media, and the angular cut out are just perfect to document this summer/pool memory.  Now that you have seen the cut file in action, it is time to stop by the store to pick up your free copy of the file.   I cannot wait to see what you create with it.  Remember to tag @Scrapbooknerdca on any of the social media outlets whenever you share your creations!

Countdown to Christmas – Day 14 – It’s the Magic of Christmas

Hello everyone!

I am sure most of us have had to make runs to a mall during the busy Holiday season!    I sure have had my share of late visits to the mall, but i have learned to bring my kids with me (and enjoy the moments together).  Even during those busy and crowded mall runs, I always make sure to stop at the Mall’s Christmas Tree display, and take pictures of the kids.  They are not always the best quality picture, but I like seeing the beautiful colors and decorations, I call it Christmas Magical.

For today’s inspiration, I wanted to used one of those blurry pictures to document our busy mall excursions.  Since time is limited through the holidays, I created this layout in less than an hour, by using the tree cut files from Scrapbook Nerd’s So Very Merry cut file.  I simply backed the cut outs with papers from Crate Paper’s Snow and Cocoa collection, and attached to one of the papers from My Mind’s Eye Sugar Plum collection .  I used the image on the paper to guide the placement of the trees.

The title comes from The Cut Shoppe’s Christmas Magic cutfile. I chose to use white card stock for all the cut-outs to keep a soft and contrasting look on the glittery patterned paper.  Using the same papers  from the Snow and Cocoa collection, I backed and layered the picture.  Once the picture was glued, I used pieces from both collections to create small clusters around the picture.   Here is the completed layout:

I love the softness of the page.   I hope this inspires you to create a document about those blurry pictures we store.  Go for a simple design;  if you own a digital cutting machine, pull out some cut files and use them to create cut-outs for your project.  If you don’t own a die cutting machine, then look through the papers and add-ons in a collection, you will be surprise to find a lot of images that could be used in the design
