Personalized Wall Clock Tutorial

V2-Nerd-Academy-600x132

Hello!
It’s Laura here with a super easy project for you, and it is such fun.
My husband and I (well, actually, more like my husband!) are in the process of renovating our daughter’s room, to make her a big girl’s room. He is in charge of the actual construction, and we (my daughter and I) are in charge of decorating.

One of the things I saw in a website that I loved was a personalized clock. Until I saw the price. Yeah, not happening. I can make it myself; I was determined. lol With all the craft supplies I have on hand, it should not be too much of a challenge.

First, I needed a clock. I picked up a cheap one at the Dollar store.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

I then gathered my craft supplies; paper, stickers, glue. For this project, I used Bella Blvd Illustrated Faith’s collections; ‘Whatever is Lovely’ and ‘She Blooms’.lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

I then took the clock gently apart. Set aside parts.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

I then took the face cover, placed on the patterned paper I chose as a background, and traced a circle. This will fit onto your clack face, therefore being your background.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

Then cut out the circle.

The background circle should fit onto your clock with no issues. You may have to trim a bit here or there.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

Now onto the really fun part. The decorating!

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

I knew I wanted to use those flowers from my page, so I fussy cut them out.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

I placed them where I wanted them to be on the clock. Added a bit of glue to adhere them.

Then I turned over the paper to trim the excess papers.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

I added more glue to the flowers. As you can see, I had trimmed a hole in the center for the hands. Don’t worry if it is not an actual circle, as you can masquerade it, like I did.

I then took letters and other stickers to personalize it.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

Once you are finished, place your face onto the clock body.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

Attach the hands, and the cover.

lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

You make paint, or decorate however you want, the outside body of the clock. I ha asked my daughter what she thought, and she suggested some glitter. Oh boy. We compromised with some glitter tape.lauraswallclocktut@scrapbooknerd.com

And there you have it ! A personalized wall clock, at a fraction of the price of the ones in retail. My daughter loves it, and I am quite pleased with the outcome!

Thank you for letting me share with you this lovely project!

Using the Heidi Swapp Reactive Screen Inks

Hello everyone! Welcome back for another Tutorial Tuesday here on Scrapbook Nerd. I’m so happy to be back on the blog sharing this tutorial with you.

I’m sharing another foiling tutorial with you today. This time, it is with the Heidi Swapp Reactive Screen Inks. I’ve been anxiously awaiting for this ink to come into the store and it was well worth the wait!

If you’re not familiar with the art screens and inks, you really need to check them out. Art screens are exactly want they sound like – small screens. They are like a stencil, but because they are screens you can get much finer detail than you can with a stencil. The inks are designed to work specifically with the screens and once applied it leaves a beautiful image behind. You can find more information here.

Now, Heidi Swapp has come out with the Reactive Ink. What this is, is an ink that you use with the art screens and then put through your laminator/minc machine, along with the foil, and the result is gorgeous!!!! I am so happy with the result that now I think I have a new obsession.

The tutorial this week is a video tutorial on how I used the Reactive ink followed by a process video for the layout below.

Here’s a look at the finished layout and a close-up of the art screen ink: instalovecloseup

You can find art screens, the regular screen inks, and the Reactive Screen Ink in the Scrapbook Nerd store, along with all the other foiling products.

Thanks for checking out my tutorial today.  I hope you feel inspired to add some foil to your next project through this beautiful medium.

Simple Stories Heart Collection with Barb

Creative Team @ scrapbooknerd.com

http://static.inlinkz.com/ppr.jsBarb @ scrapbooknerd.com

Hello everyone. This week I’ve been working with the Simple Stories Simple Set Heart collection. This collection is all about sharing pages of our loved ones, those who are still with us, and also those who have passed on. It’s hard to find good products that allow us to share our memories in such a meaningful and tasteful way. This collection does it beautifully with a tender, soothing color palette and touching titles and quotes about always remembering those who are always in our heart.

My first project was all about a dear friend who will forever be in my heart!

This layout was also used in the tutorial for this week on how you can foil your stamped images.

The next two projects were all about my family. I love that this collection works equally well for loved ones whether they are still with us, or just in our hearts.

Both of these layouts will be available as a layout kit in the Scrapbook Nerd store, so be sure to watch for them.

Thanks for checking out my projects this week. I hope they have inspired to create something about your loved ones.

Tutorial – Adding Foil to Your Stamped Image

Hi everyone. Welcome back to another tutorial.
This week I’m sharing a video tutorial on how you can foil your stamped images.

Ever since I’ve started playing around with my Deco Foils, I’ve been itching to try and see if I could somehow apply them to a stamped image. Everything that I tried wasn’t working. So, I started researching online and came across a tutorial from Jennifer McGuire. She shared this technique. It works fairly well and I was fairly happy with the results. The foil will scratch off if you really try- and I mean really try with your fingernail. Since my project will be inside a page protector, I’m to too worried about that.

Thanks for checking out the tutorial this week. If you give this a try, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Art Journaling how to

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials @ scraobooknerd.com

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Have you ever thought about starting an art journal?
It’s a really great way to try things out before adding new techniques to layouts, canvases or other projects. I consider it a testing ground, a place I create in that has no rules, no mistakes and often no plan of what I will create. I just go for it 🙂

As you’ll see in the video below, things don’t always work out exactly as I hoped but we can work with them making them part of the design or it can get covered up with another page element. I really enjoy the process of creating in my art journal; it’s not complicated, there’s no pressure and getting messy is quite fun.

If you have any questions please post them in a comment, I’m happy to help out where I can.
Thanks for taking a look, I hope you enjoy it!

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hello everyone. Now that the Holidays are winding down, it’s time to get your paper out and get creative again. After I’ve had a bit of a break in scrapbooking, I find that I need a quick project to boost my creative energy. Today, I have a quick and easy page tutorial to help you get back into the creative swing.

pp1

For this project you will need:
-a 12×12 piece of white cardstock
-three matching patterns of 12×12 paper – I’ve used the Photo Play Family Ties collection
-a pocket style card – I used the cut-apart sheet that came with the Family Ties collection
-embellishments that will match your paper (I pulled a few that I thought I may use, but in the end I only used the sticker sheets from the Photo Play Family Ties collection, and the MAMBI Chips – Insta Love.
-a 5×7 photo

pp2

Cut your patterned papers into various sizes. The Navy polkadot is 8″x6″, the blue chevron is 4″x10″ and the orange is 6″x7.5″
Layer them onto your background cardstock.

pp3

Add your photo.

pp4

Add your pocket-style card to the right edge of your photo.

pp5

Add your title.

pp6

Add your embellishments in clusters on the top left of the layout, the right side – over lapping the pocket-style card, and the bottom left of the photo. Make sure your embellishment are touching so that they don’t appear to be floating. I also use pop dots on some of my embellishments to give them some dimension.

pp7

pp8

There you have it – a quick layout to get you back into the creative swing.

Sunday card share #15

Sunday Card Share scrapbooknerd.com
Welcome back to another SCS,

I love to make and send thank you cards, admittedly I don’t send them out often enough though. I must work on that 😉 I used distress inks and watercolour paper for everything except the card base for this weeks card. (ink colours – Old paper, Salty Ocean, & Spiced Marmalade)
I did some stencil work and water flicking to add a bit of interest to the cups & saucer, then added a die cut sentiment from the script celebrate die set from Tim Holtz & Sizzix.

Thank you card - Sunday Card Share @ scrapbooknerd.com
