Hi there!

It is getting closer and closer to the magical days of Christmas.  We are so excited to welcome the holidays and  document all the memories that come with this season.   Our Design Team has been busy creating projects that will inspire you.  First  up Mari.

Mari created these Christmas Tags using the Lawn Fawn Say What tag dies and the Lawn Fawn Holiday Critters stamp and dies. The patterned paper used as accents is from the Really Rainbow Christmas, also from Lawn Fawn. There are so many options with these stamps and dies; the middle tag has a shaker element using sequins and shaker mix from Studio Katia.

It’s fun to make your own tags at Christmas time to attach to a gift for someone you love! They will adore these fun tag elements!   Thank you so much Mari for these beautiful tags!

Next up is Nathalie and her colorful Holiday layout,

This week’s tutorial focuses on creating embellishments that will work with the ones in the Holiday collections,  Nathalie chose the new Merry Days collection from Crate Paper, and used mixed media and cut files to create the colorful background.

You can read more about her layout and see how it all came together in the previous post.   The colors of the trees are nicely accented with gold and embellishments from the collection.

Well, that is all for us today.   We would be taking a small break to enjoy our families and the season, so let us take this opportunity to wish you all peace, love and joy during the upcoming Christmas and thank you for all your support this year, we wish only the best for 2019.

Have a blessed holiday season!

Hello everyone!

Hope you all are enjoing what is left of Fall, it is snowing here in Canada already!   We took this week to celebrate Gratitude, and have asked our DT to create projects that document what they are thankful for.   So, let’s see what they have created this week, first up is Mari.

Mari created her layout using the Vicki Boutin mixed media products and papers and embellishments from Field Notes. Using a Crafter’s Workshop stencil, Mari added some acrylic gel medium to the edges of the Bazzil Marshmallow card stock. Once dry, she added some Art Crayons with a stencil brush.

Mari also added some Foil gel and added some Gina K foil to a few areas. Some more Art Crayon was added in a few other areas of the background using the Vicki Boutin stencil and the stencil brush. For more details, head over to Mari’s YouTube channel for the full process.  What a fun and colorful layout,  Thank You, Mari.

Next up is Nathalie.

Nathalie was up on this week’s Tuesday Tutorial with this new page that focus on working non-seasonal paper collections into a Gratitude page with an Autumnal feel.

She combined Kaisercraft’s Full Bloom collection and Vicki Boutin Mixed Media to create a soft layout that celebrates her family bonds.  You can check more details of the page on the previous post.

Now it is Joy’s turn.

Joy created this TN page in a Prime Marketing watercolor insert using watercolor crayons, a few stencils, stamping inks, and a favorite  quote about gratitude.   Art journals and now TN pages are Joy’s favourite way to collect life reminders and quotes.   Beautiful spread, Joy!

Wow!  what an amazing group of projects that celebrate gratitude.  We hope these inspire you to create a project about something you are thankful for!    Remember to stop by the Scrapbook Nerd store to check all the new products that are arriving at the store!

Hi there!

The weather is cooling, the leaves are falling, PSL is back and we all are looking for our cozy sweaters… It is Fall, y’all!!   What a great time to enjoy nature, and all its splendor; this was the inspiration for this week’s projects from our design team,  “Fall Colors”.  So, let’s see what they created, first up is Mari.

For fall colors week, Mari created an 8 1/2 x 11 Scrapbook layout using the Vicki Boutin Field Notes collection. Using the Art Crayons and Vicki Boutin stencils, Mari added some color to the white card stock. Some Irridescent Glaze was added through a stencil to create some texture on the layout.

Other stickers and die cuts from Field Notes have been added, as well as a strip of patterned paper to the top 1/4 of the layout. The black title piece has been added using the gorgeous phrase sticker sheets in black.

What a beautiful color combination and all the mixed media on the background.   Gorgeous layout, Mari.  Now let’s see Milena’s project.

101418 page

Milena was up on the blog this week with her take on this week’ s sketch.   She also chose to work with VIcki Boutin’s Field Notes collection and multiple Pictures.

Sunday Sketch 101418

You can find all the details of her page on the Sunday blog post.  What a great sketch, and Oh, the possibilities!  Thanks, Milena; and now let’s see what Nathalie created.

Nathalie was up on the blog’s Tuesday Tutorial spot.  She chose to showcase how to create a color family for a multicolor background using Vicki Boutin’s Acrylic Pop Paints.  You can find all the details and process video in the previous blog post.

The color combo, all the stamped images, and the vellum leaves are the perfect canvas for the sweet picture of her niece.  Great layout, Nathalie.

Well, now it is time to use some of this inspiration on your projects.  Remember to check Scrapbook Nerd store for all the materials used in these projects.  There are so many new products arriving at the store, so make sure to stop by to check them all!

Thank you so much for visiting!

Hi there!

It is time for the weekend!!! The perfect time to relax, rest and hopefully get creative.  This week our DT has been sharing some beautiful projects that are sure going to inspire you this weekend.

First up is Gisele with a gorgeous layout that showcases Simple Stories I AM collection.

GIsele used papers from the Simple Stories”Cabin Fever” and Crate Paper’s “Flourish ” to create the background for this page.  She created the butterfly embellishments by combining fussy cut butterflies from the I am collection, and some punched vellum.

Gisele added some layers of papers from the collection behind the picture and then added a few fussy cut flowers to the corners of her layers.

Gisele combined  alphas from different American Crafts collection to create her title, and then used stickers from the I AM collection to complete her journaling.  Such a beautiful page, Gisele!

Next up is Mari with a series of mini book ideas.

Mari created her first mini-book page using a piece of Bazzil Marshmallow card stock. The paper was trimmed to 6×6. Then, using the packaging technique, Mari added color to the white paper with Distress Oxide Inks in colors that complement the Amy Tangerine “Shine On” embellishments and paper.

For this 3×3 folded mini-book, Mari used Pink Paislee “Turn the Page”. The book is created using a 12×12 piece of patterned paper, folded into 3×3 squares in an accordian fold.

This 6×6 album was created by covering chipboard with patterned paper from Crate Paper “Willow Lane” and then embellished with a variety of Maggie Holmes collections.

These minis are so gorgeous, Mari!  Thank you for sharing!

Last is Nathalie with this week’s Tuesday Tutorial that focus on using black paint as the background for your pages.

She combined a bit of black paint with Kaisercraft’s Fleur collection to create this page.   You can find all the details, and watch her process video in the previous post.

Truly an eye catching layout!

Our DT has truly been sharing beautiful projects this week.  We hope these inspire you to get creative and  used them as inpiration to start a new project of your own!  Have a great weekend!

Hi there!

Summer is rapidly coming to an end, and with it also go those long lazy hot days we all treasure so much.   While many of you take time off work to visit your cottages or travel, our design team has been busy bringing you some inspiration.

This week, we have asked the DT to create projects using Pink Paislee’s Auburn Lane collection, and  the projects are just beautiful, so let’s get started.  First up is Mari:

Mari cari created this layout using the color palette and collection pieces from Pink Paislee “Auburn Lane”. This collection has such a romantic/vintage feel…perfect for this wedding photo!

The Distress Oxide Inks used on the white background complement the colors from the collection. The JustNick Leaf Background cut file has texture paste added to it for some extra dimension on the layout. The florals and hearts are the perfect embellishments for this soft, pretty layout.

Love the soft tones and details in this romantic layout!  Beautiful page, Mari!  now it is Gisele’s turn to inspire us:

Gisele create this page with a picture of herself with her mother. Pictures those days were rare, and this is one of the very few she has of both of them. Circa 1953.

Her title is made of AC Thickers “Happy Life” and goes great with the gold in the page. She added a doily as a feminine touch and added sprinkles of Heidi Swapp Colour Shine in gold. In the upper left of the photo, she cut the ephemera frame in half and added both as corner embellishments. A few tags were added with a punch from her stash as well as the gold floss and the added heart charm

The play of patterns and that sweet picture make this a stunning layout!  Now let’s be inspired by Nathalie:

She created this page using fussy cut elements from papers from the collection.   This page was the focus of this week’s tutorial (previous post) that focused on adding fussy cut embellishments to your projects.

All those florals bring the page together by framing the picture of her family.   Beautiful page, Nathalie!

Well that is all for us this week!  i hope the DT projects have inspired you to take a closer look at Pink Paislee’s Auburn Lane collection.  This collection is available at Scrapbook Nerd, along with many of the newer liner releases.  So stop by to check what is new at the Store.

Have a great weekend!!

Hi there!

Another week is just finishing. Time to relax, and recharge before Monday comes by.   It is amazing how fast time is running, we are headed to the middle of Summer (here in Canada) and finally the weather has cooled off a  bit, and we are enjoying beautiful Summer days.  How about a bit of inspiration for the weekend, maybe this will be your starting point for a new project!

This week, we asked the Nerd Girls to showcase out free cut files in their projects, and we are floored by what each of them shared on social media.  First up is Mari.

Mari chose the Stellar Shapes cut file to create this gorgeous page about her daughter and soon -to-be Son-in-law.

Mari used a bit of Distress Oxides to create the soft mixed media behind each of the shapes.  The colors in the background bring the detail of the cut outs, and match all the embellishments from Pebbles’ Patio Party collection.

The soft background contrasts and complements the picture beautifully.   The well placed cut outs just frame the picture nicely.  SUch a beautiful layout, Mari!

Next is Gisele and a gorgeous double page layout

Gisele chose the Together Hearts cut filel to create the two pages of her layout.   She backed each of the hearts with papers from Simple Stories’ “Hello Summer” collection, and framed each of ther grand-nieces pictures with the cut out.

Gisele used papers from the Hello Summer collection to form the background of the layout, as well as to layer the pictures of her grand-nieces.  She added lots of details using the stickers that come included in the collection, as well as some puffy hearts from Pinkfresh Studio.

She also combined some fussy cut florals from the Hello Summer collection withe chipboard stickers from Crate Paper’s Wild Heart collection, and stickers from Photoplay’s Stuck on You collection.   Such a beautiful and very colorful double page, Gisele.

Last is Nathalie with a light take on this week’s focus.

Nathalie used the Let The Sunshine In cut file to create a large focused title/background for her page.     She used Vicki Boutin’s Art Crayons to create a soft mixed media look for this page, using the colors of Simple Stories’s  “Hello Summer” collection as inspiration.

She backed the cut out with papers from the Hello Summer collection.  A bit of foam adhesive creates that soft shadow in the page and behind the cut-out.

So many fun elements and beautiful florals  in the Hello Summer collection!  Nathalie combined both to create clusters around the picture and layout.  Beautiful work, Nathalie

Well that is all for us this week.  We hope that you are inspired to visit the Scrapbook Nerd online store and download a few of our free cut files, and also check all the new collections arriving at the store.

Til next time.

HI there!

It is Summer!!!  yay!!!

finally warmer and longer days are here, kids are finishing school, and many have already left for their cottages and vacations, I think after our long winter we were more than ready to start Summer.    Thankfully this was the inspiration for this week’s projects for our DT, so let’s see what they created:

First up is Gisele with this beautiful layout that showcases Simple Stories’ Bliss collection.   All the purple hues in this collection are beautiful.  Gisele  uses a combination of the collection’s embellishments in this 8.5×11 creation.

She used a mixture of fussy cut elements from the collection as well as some pieces from Pinkfresh Studio (The Mix2 collection ) to complete the look of this page.   Simply gorgeous, Gisele!

Next up is Mari with a supper summery page:

Mari combined some mixed media (Vicki Boutin iridescent glaze, and DIna Wakely paints) to create the water scene of this page.   She then used the Splash cut file (free at the Scrapbook Nerd store) to add a colorful title to this page.

All the embellishments from Dear Lizzy’s Stay colorful collection just add the perfet touch to this super fun page of her family enjoying a summer day.   Beautiful page, Mari!

This week’s Tuesday Tutorial focuses on using patterns in the paper to create a focal point for your background.

Nathalie showed us this week how she transformed one of the papers in the Wander collection from My Mind’s Eye to create the focal point of this page.   Isn’t that picture of her baby just too funny for words!!

She used a bit of hand stitching to bring texture and a bit of interest to a rather simple layout. Such a clever idea!

It is always fun to see what the DT has been creating and inspiring us with each week. Now it is your turn to enjoy your Summer, create memories, and then take the time to document them. Remember that Scrapbook Nerd has lots of new collections available (many are perfect for all those summer memories), so stop by the store to check all the new goodies available.

Thank you for stopping by!

Hello Nerds!

Another week has come to an end, and the Nerd Girls have been showing projects all this week inspired on the “Strawberry Social” theme.

Let’s have a look at what they have been sharing on social media, and in the Scrapbook Nerd Frinds and Fans Facebook page.

First up is Gisele with a beautiful and very colorful project featuring Phtotoplay’s Paprika collection.

She used a cut file from the SIlhouette store to create the background of this page, and then used the collection paper, designs and colors to embellish and tell the story of her family at Turkey Dinner.

Just love how she mixed all the colors and patterns together in one single page,   Beautiful work, Gisele!

Next up is Mari, with this gorgeous page that features Paige Evans, Pick Me Up collection, and a bit of mixed media on the background.

Mari started by using VIcki Boutin’s Art crayons and a brayer to create the soft yellow watercolor background for her page,  and then addd simple layers to behind the picture to create this gorgeous page.

Such sweet way to document a sweet family moment  Thanks, Mari!

Next up is Nathalie with this week’s Tuesday Tutorial,  Reworking  Backgrounds. In this tutorial she shared with us two process videos on how to transform a not so loved page into two beautifu new projects using the elements of the page,

The first page features Pebbles’ Patio Party collection, and a bit of mixed media to accent the  colorful picture of her family at the Strawberry Farm.

Lastly Nathalie also created this page using parts of the background of the not so loved layout.  She used Vicki Boutin’s products to create this new striking page.

Both fun ideas on how to repurpose an old layout.

That is all for this week!   Lots of inspiration being created and shared by our Creative team.   Remember you can see more of the projects on our Facebook Friends and Fans page.

Til next time!

Tuesday Tutorial | Distress Oxide Background

Welcome to the blog today for another Tuesday Tutorial! I love using Ranger Distress Oxide inks.  The properties of the ink are so unique.  The muted tones are perfect for backgrounds on layouts.

I added the ink to a piece of packaging, then added a bit of water with a spray bottle.  I applied the ink in several areas of the white cardstock and then built the layout on top.  I have used the Dear Lizzy “Stay Colorful” collection for the layout.  The floral pieces were fussy cut from one of the papers from the 12×12 paper pad.

There are so many colors of Distress Oxide ink to work with on your projects.  This same method can be used for cards and many other projects.

Try some Distress Oxides on your next project!

Here is a link to Distress Oxide Inks in the shop.

Have a wonderful day!

xxMari

Theme week – Blast from the Past

Creative Team @ scrapbooknerd.com

Hello and welcome back to the SN blog.
This past week we challenged the Nerd Girls to create a project about a Blast from the Past. Scroll down to see layouts from Gisele, Mari, and Nathalie.

Inspired by a Kristine Davidson sketch in her new online book of sketches, Gisele’s layout is somewhat out of her comfort zone as I usually do not use a white cardstock background. Using the last bits and pieces I had from Jillibean Soup Farmhouse Stew, the stickers from the collection, some Shimelle enamel dots, Amy Tangerine felt pompoms, AC Thickers from my stash: Dear Lizzy Sparkling and Lullaby, a vellum bow, Heidi Swapp Colour shine in sweet mint and several circle punches. I fussy cut the flowers and added a Vicki Boutin bird paper clip. I like that my photo is in black and white as this picture is circa 1954?, when I was living in Montreal, Quebec.

Mari used the Crate Paper “Good Vibes” collection to create this layout with a Blast From the Past photo. The messy photo layers were created using bits of paper from the 6×6 paper pad and die cuts from the ephemera pack. Lots of embellishments from the collection including stickers, chipboard and cork pieces were used to create three clusters on the layout.

Nathalie created this page about one of the few pictures of her childhood (circa 1978) using a bit of mixed media in the background. She used Photoplay’s Vintage Girl collection to back the large title and to create the flowers on the page. She combined a few of Jen Hadfield’s Sticker book images in the clusters, and along the entire page.

We hope you found some inspiration in today’s post. If you have any questions were just a comment away!

Dig out an old photo of yourself or a loved one and document your own blast from the past.
