Travel Mini-Album Tutorial

V2-Nerd-Academy-600x132

Paige @ scrapbooknerd.com

Hello All,

During the past month, even as I began doing holiday crafts and cards, I set a goal to start and complete an album documenting our summer trip. We have two boys, and we are all avid baseball fans, so we planned a trip to the U.S. to visit a couple of baseball stadiums and take in Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs games.

I decided on a 6×8 album, and luckily chose one with a 2″ spine as it ended up being a very thick album. I also decided to primarily use Shimelle’s recent “Go Now Go” collection for this project. Here are some things that I decided to do to organize my photos, stories and memorabilia.

  1. Used Thickers to title the album cover.

  2. Used two larger photos of baseball stadiums we visited and Amy Tan Thickers to create a title page.Sn@p Mini album by Paige for scrapbooknerd.com
  3. Created dividers to introduce each new city/travel day. Each divider labeled the city we were travelling to, a map, and a few embellishments, including a Thicker phrase from Shimelle’s Let’s Go Foam Stickers.

  4. Include memorabilia directly in the album. I punched holes in menus, tickets, and brochures and inserted them together with the photos and stories of those experiences. I like my albums having different sized papers and “out of pocket” pieces, so this works for me.

  5. Print small photos or cut larger photos to fit into 2×2 pockets.fox-mini-album10Sn@p Mini album by Paige for scrapbooknerd.com
  6. Finish the album with two large photos (6×8) that I liked best from the trip.Sn@p Mini album by Paige for scrapbooknerd.comSn@p Mini album by Paige for scrapbooknerd.com
  7. Use packaging from trip to hold other memorabilia. In my case, I had a great bag from a candy shop we went to, and I punched holes to include it at the end of the album, holding any additional tickets, menus, and brochures.Sn@p Mini album by Paige for scrapbooknerd.com

Thank you so much for looking! I hope you have fun documenting your travels. There are many great products in the SN Store to help you to do so.

Christmas Countdown Day 13: December Daily

Paige @ scrapbooknerd.com

This year will be my third year doing the December Daily project. I really enjoy looking back at previous years and seeing the different traditions and events from year to year, and how my boys are growing. I find that it also helps to ground me in being present and slowing down enough to enjoy the season as December busy-ness descends.

For those who are not familiar with this project, it typically involves telling one story through photos and journaling for each day of December (either until the 25th or 31st). Here are some reflections from my 2015 album, and some of the things I liked most about my album.

  1. Album Cover:

  5. Out of pocket: though most of the album is in pockets, I really like breaking it up with back to back photos or cards outside of pockets.

  7. Blessings and Joys: On Day 10, I wrote ten blessings in my life on tags, and then created a pocket in which to house them. Then, on Day 15, I asked both of my children to write a list of things that bring them joy. I love having something in their writing (besides their Santa letters).

Using Chipboard Frames for a Mini Album

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials @ scraobooknerd.com

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Hi all, Fleur with you today to show you how to make a super cute and quick mini album using chipboard frames.  Here is the finished album.

Apr5

To make this album I used my Iphone photos and printed them at about 4×4 size then trimmed them to fit into the frames.

Captured Mini1

I kept it pretty simple just adding a few embellishments to the frames like this flair button.

Captured Mini2

I also added some journalling cards and chipboard stickers – it is all Crate Paper products.

Captured Mini3

You could really add anything you wanted to the frames, here I added a sticker and on the next frame a tag.

Switch Pate Mini

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials @ scraobooknerd.com

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Welcome to another Tutorial Tuesday with Scrapbook Nerd. This week I’m going to show you how I made this mini album using a light switch plate cover – that’s right, a switch plate cover from the hardware store. What I love about using the switch plate covers for the cover of the mini album is that it gives the album a shadow box feel.

dadmini10_edited-1

Supplies:

dadmini1

-Echo Park Jack and Jill Boy collection kit
-Echo Park Jack and Jill Boy Chipboard Stickers
-Echo Park Jack and Jill Boy Ephemera
-October Afternoon Daily Flash Flair
-switch plate cover with three openings
-2 binder rings
Step-by-Step

dadmini2

Cover the front of the switch plate cover with adhesive. I used my ATG but you could use mod podge as well. Once it is covered with adhesive, lay your chosen patterned paper on top. Sand the paper off the edges using your sanding block for a clean edge. Sand off the paper from the inside openings of the switch plate.

dadmini

Adhere a piece of double sided patterned paper to the back of the switch plate cover. Pay attention to what side of the paper you want showing through the “windows” on the front of the cover.

dadmini4

Once the paper is adhered, poke the two outer screw holes through. These will be the holes for the binder rings.

dadmini8 dadmini9

For the pages of my mini, I cut apart the 4×6 cards from the cut apart sheet. Punch holes to match the holes of the cover.

Attach all the pages and the cover using the binder rings.

Add pictures and embellish as desired. I used the windows on the front cover for my “Dad” title.

Here’s my finished project:
