Nathalie’s April Review

Creative Team @ scrapbooknerd.com

Hello everyone!

Spring is in full swing!, and i was inspired in the change of season (colors are starting to show, flowers are blooming, weather is warming up, and no more boots! -at least in my part of Canada-) to create colorful projects for my reveal week, this month.  Here is a review of what i was inspired to create:

  • PERFECT SMILE –  The beautiful triangle pattern in the Joy Parade collection -by Fancy Pants Designs- was the starting point for this layout.   The inky background, and the color combination were just a welcome compliment to a super fun picture of some of my family.

  • SPLASH –  Blog Post tutorial on Distress Oxides –   I love playing with different mediums to create backgrounds for my projects.  This time, I chose to use the new Ranger’s Distress Oxides to create the illusion of splashing water in a layout.  In case you missed it, there is a small video that shows how the background was created (just go to the previous post)

  • LOVE WHAT YOU DO –  For this layout, i chose a large hand stitched title, the new distress oxides, embellishments from Simple Stories Faith collection, and  papers from Echo Park’s Just Be You collection to document one of my favorite hobbies -photography-.

  • AMAZING –  In case you have never seen pictures of my family, we are in love with our 3rd baby, a 6 yr old Boston Terrier named Poochie.   Once I saw the doggie die cut piece in the Chit Chat Chowder collection by Jillibean Soup, I knew that i would be coming home to my desk.  Here is one of the layouts, I have created with this collection (and in case you have extra doggie die cut pieces you are not using,  I would love to add them to my stash!!!)

I really hope that this array of colors, textures and designs inspire you to visit the Scrapbook Nerd  store to check all the new collections that are always being added to their shelves.  Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions on how any of these came together.

Keep on Craftin’!!

Collection Pack by Jillibean Soup – Chit Chat Chowder

With all 4 of my projects this week I tried to pick embellishment techniques that are super easy for everyone.

On project #1 the happy face has a pop dot used for added dimension. I also substituted a button for the letter O for added dimension as well as visual interest.

Project # 2 stencils with gelatos so super easy to do (see my below in the scrapbook nerd blog for more information)

Project # 3 has the look of splatter (I used a stamp!) it doesn’t get any easier.

This layout has…..paper ripped edges, sand paper edge, and inked edge. Another super easy technique is just to add pop dots or foam tape to die cuts (your own or pre packaged) as I did with the embellishments in the top left hand corner.

The papers in this collection are so easy to mix and match and suit so many occasions you really don’t have to work hard to make your photo’s stand out as special, some easy techniques are all  you will need!

Gelatos with a stencil? Yes!

Step by Step paper crafting projects

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Cathy @ scrapbooknerd.com

Stencils are my scrapbooking weakness, I just cannot resist them. So rather than fight it, I look for ways to use my stencils to justify my collection, and I have stumbled on yet another medium in which to use! Gelatos! and the best part this is so easy.

Items needed:   Crafting mat, Gelatos, sponge, stencil, and some tape.

Place and tape down your stencil on your paper. Begin by colouring the Gelato directly on the stencil. Pick up the colour from your stencil with your sponge and using a circular motion add the colour to your paper.

Continue until you are satisfied with your result. With this stencil I lightly shaded the yellow with a coral to reach the colour I was looking for.

I also added a second smaller stencil with a likeness to the first stencil design and used  a different colour of gelato using the same above procedure. Now I am ready to place my photo, paper and embellishments.

Here is my finished layout, I love the intensity of the colours by using the Gelatos, I will definitely be using this technique more often (I have plenty of stencils to try 🙂 from my collection)

Thanks for looking!

Happy Crafting……….Cathy
